Website ribbon

Adding a website ribbon to your blog/website can be a good idea. It stands out from the clutter and can be used as good advertising space or just as a prominent link to something important. I recently added a ribbon to the top-right corner of this blog. It is just another link to my e-book but you can use it for just about anything.

Here is how you can get your own website ribbon: go to http://www.websiteribbon.com/ and follow the instructions. This is a great website that lets you create your own ribbon. All you have to do is copy the code it gives you and paste it as an html element in your blog layout.

google analytics

It might seem like a mean thing to do but i have left some stuff out of my ebook deliberatly. the truth is, i need you to come back for more information every now and thenand to remember me. that is kinda the essence of making money on the internet. you need to have people come back for more. and since i'm not charging anybody for the information, i geuss it's only fair. thats one important thing you should look at when you start a blog. make sure your blog is good enough to attract repeat visits.

here's a tip: when you start your blog, make sure you go to http://www.google.com/analytics and create an account. the procedure is quite simple. all you have to do is use your gmail/google/blogger account to access analytics. then add your blog address and continue. analytics will give you a code which you should paste in your blogs html. there are two ways of doing this on blogger:

1) paste it directly into the code > you do this by going to the 'template' tab and then clicking on the 'edit html' tab. paste it in the html after the 'body' tag.

2) create a page element > go to the 'template' tab and then click on 'page elements'. 'add' a page element. there should be an 'html' option on the popup. paste the code. google analytics is imporant because it keeps track of all the hits on your website. it tells you what the sources of traffic are, which countries the traffic is coming from, the number of hits every day, number of repeat visitors, average time people spend reading your blog, and a ton of other stuff. this is worth looking at. get used to it because when your blog starts to take off, you will need analytics to guage the blogs success.

blogging 101

hey, i go by the name 'spitshine' and i have put this blog together to talk to you about money-making through blogging. this is the very first post on this blog and quite honestly i haven't done anything of this sort before i.e. put together a resource to help people make money.

I have been blogging successfully for quite some time now.. although on various other topics. Some of my blogs were monetized through adsense, adbrite and affiliate sales commissions, and some were not. Some blogs did(and are still doing) really well others crashed and burned. everytime i lose a blog i try and create a new one. it is only until now i figured i had run out of things to write about. i took it as an opportunity to tell you about everything i have learnt about making money on the internet through blogging. i was like a headless goat when i started. i did not know my head from my ass. and i spent a lot of time looking for one SINGLE resource that would feed me all the information i needed. i never found one. so, now i'm going to try this out and see if i can be of some value to all those headless goats out there trying to make a quick (or not so quick) buck on the internet.
